Cocoa

The cocoa tree is native to the Americas and grows in regions closer to the Equator. In Peru it is found in the Amazon rainforest regions. The chocolate made with high percentage of cacao is rich in carbohydrates and protein. Cocoa is also a rich source of antioxidants such as procyanidins and flavonoids. Cocoa also contains a high level of flavonoids, specifically epicatechin, which may have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health.
